Southwest Medical IPA was formed in 1995 with a singular, vital purpose: to create a powerful, unified voice for independent physicians. In an increasingly complex healthcare environment, our Independent Physician Association acts as a shield and a strategic ally for local practices, helping them navigate the heavy operational administrative burdens of hospital credentialing and insurance contracting.
What sets our Independent Physician Association apart is true autonomy. We are a selective membership organization designed exclusively by and for independent doctors. Southwest Medical IPA receives zero funding from hospitals, insurance networks, or outside medical corporations. This unique structure ensures our loyalty remains exactly where it belongs—with our independent doctors and the patients they care for.

Today, our network consists of over 140 physicians across the Lubbock area. Our membership covers a vast range of primary care providers alongside comprehensive surgical and diagnostic specialties. Every single physician within our Independent Physician Association is required to successfully complete a rigorous, NCQA-approved professional credentialing process. This uncompromising standard of excellence ensures that our coalition represents the highest tier of medical care in our community.
