Our Mission - Empowering the Physician

The mission of SWMIPA is to provide a unified alliance of physicians dedicated to supporting the physician-patient relationship thereby facilitating exceptional medical care at competitive costs and maintaining the physician as the patient advocate at all levels of healthcare delivery.

Through an integrated system of credentialing and direct contact with our managed care organizations (MCO), we are able to expedite and maintain our members' network participation, management of contracts via messenger-model, and demographic changes and claims issues.

Common Questions Answered

Explore answers to frequently asked questions about our membership benefits and services offered to independent practices.

What services does Southwest Medical IPA offer?

We provide credentialing, contract management, compliance assistance, and educational workshops to support independent practices.

How can I join Southwest Medical IPA?

Independent physicians in the Lubbock area can contact us to receive a membership packet and learn about joining our network.

Who can I contact regarding a persistent insurance claims issue?

The IPA is the designated go-between contact for the provider and the managed care organization; therefore, you will need to contact the IPA who will then contact the organization for further instructions and details.

How long does the physician credentialing process typically take?

Our process is designed to be significantly faster than standard insurance onboarding. Because most major health plans delegate their credentialing authority directly to Southwest Medical IPA, we are able to successfully streamline the timeline for your practice. Once your office submits a complete background packet, our internal Credentialing Committee efficiently handles the primary source verifications—getting your new providers paneled and ready to see patients as quickly as possible.

If the credentialing process proceeds normally the IPA can get you approved and with an effective date for the managed care networks within 2-3 weeks.

Can allied health providers join the association?

While our primary membership is built specifically for independent physicians, your allied health team members are absolutely covered! Member doctors can easily sponsor their clinical staff—like nurse practitioners and physician assistants—directly through our centralized credentialing program.
