INTRODUCTION
Southwest Medical IPA was formed in 1995 to fulfill the goal of creating an organization to represent the independent physician to help negotiate, maintain, and manage preferred provider agreements. The IPA consists of truly independent physicians and receives no funding from any hospital or other corporation.  Southwest Medical IPA consists of over 140 physicians in the Lubbock area covering a wide range of surgical and diagnostic specialties as well as primary care. Physician members are required and have successfully completed a thorough NCQA-approved professional credentialing process.

MISSION
The mission of Southwest Medical IPA is to provide a unified coalition of physicians dedicated to the advocacy of physician-patient relationships; to negotiate and manage contracts with managed care organizations on behalf of our members; and to educate our members and their staff regarding changes in physician-patient relationships in a managed care environment. The goal of the organization, through an integrated system of credentialing, utilization review, and quality management is to provide high quality medical care at competitive costs, unparalled in the current healthcare environment in that the physician is maintained as the patient advocate at all levels of healthcare delivery.
